The day that the five members of the Brue Valley Rotary team arrived at Bareilly in India, was the 108th birthday of Rotary and we were treated to a celebration (World Understanding & Peace Day) with the young members of the Interact Club of Manas Sthali, Faridpur-Bareilly which is sponsored by the Rotary club of Bareilly South, (RID-3110).
The club is based at the Manas Sthali School and we attended the Interact Clubs final meeting of the year as “honoured guests”. There are approximately 160 members of the Interact Club at the school, which represents almost half the school, and as chief guest, Sally Hoadley presented graduation awards to those who were leaving the club and the school.
As well as the formalities, we were treated to a display of traditional dancing, performed by the children of the school which was both colourful and energetic.
We were made to feel very welcome by Mr Shyamji Sharma who is Program Coordinator,
Rotary International’s India National PolioPlus Committee, and also by his wife Mrs Anju Sharma, who is Hindi language teacher as well as Faculty Counsellor of the Interact club. Some of the photos included in this post have been provided by Mr Sharma, and our grateful thanks go to the staff and youngsters at the school who created such a memorable evening for us.
