Wine, wine everywhere and plenty a drop to drink

On a balmy June evening, 15 interpret Brue Valley Rotarians and their guests made a rare foray into Dorset to visit the Melbury Vale Vineyard at Cann, outside Shaftesbury.

There we were met by Joseph and Clare Pestell who showed us round the vineyard, explaining the various varieties of grape being grown and the hard work that was involved in restoring the neglected land which is now the vineyard. From there we progressed to the winery for an explanation of the journey from grape to bottle before moving on to tasting a wonderful selection of last year’s wines.

Our grateful thanks to Joseph and Clare who couldn’t have been more convivial and generous hosts. The number of bottles leaving the premises standing testament to our enjoyment of the wines sampled!

Thanks to to the team at Hope2Bake who provided a plentiful buffet which we consumed whilst tasting the wine. Hope2Bake is a project run by Shaftesbury and District Carers to raise funds.
